Here's a neat trick that allows you to turn sound into light!

Start with a cardboard box and cut a hole in both sides like this one here.
Next, take a sheet of baking or greaseproof paper and line one side of the box, securing it in place around the edges with masking tape.
Now we need to make our item that will turn the sound into light... Take a piece of holographic wrapping paper and cut it into a small rectangle like this here.
Put a piece of double sided tape on the top edge of the rectangle and remove the backing.
Stick a straw to the tape and fold the holographic paper over the top of it.

Cut off the excess straw as you won't need it.
Then, cut along the holographic paper lengthways so that you have three separate thin pieces of holographic paper.
Thread a piece of string or cotton through the straw at the top of the holographic strips...
... and stick this to the open side of your box with masking tape, like in this picture, making sure the shiny strips are facing inwards.
Place the box on the floor and put a torch inside it. You will need to position the torch so that it faces the shiny strips - so you may need to put something underneath it to support it, like in this picture.
Next, stick a piece of cotton to the cone of the speaker using masking tape. Do not do this if the speaker cone is made of paper - this will only work on speaker cones that have a shiny protective cover.
Tie the other end of the cotton to the middle of your line of shiny strips of paper that you've stuck across the box.
Then gently pull the box away from the speaker so that the line of cotton becomes fairly tight. This will allow the sound vibrations to travel along the cotton.
Sit back, turn the music on and watch the patterns appear on the back of the box!

This technique works best with music that has lots of bass, as that makes the speaker vibrate more.
