If you like eating the kind of sweets that come in tubes, you'll like this idea – your own mini orchestra!
Firstly, to make a shaker, just shake a tube that's still got some sweets in it and shake away! |
You can make a twanger by pulling an elastic band longways over an empty, small sweet tube.
Pop a cork between the elastic band and the barrel of the tube, and twang away.
Adjust the position of the cork to get a different sound.
A recorder can be made from a small sweet tube also.
Cut a slit in one end, and make three holes in the barrel, like this.
Then cut a thin drinking straw down, flatten it down and tape it in position so that it lines up with the slit.
The bottom of the straw must line up with the top of the slit otherwise it won't work!
You can make a similar instrument with a different sound from a small sweet tube, too.
Make three holes in the barrel…
…but this time, add an extra hole in the sealed end, like this.
Cut another drinking straw down and make slits in one end to create a V-shaped notch, as you can see in the picture opposite.
Pop this through the hole you made in the sealed end. |
Blow into it to get a different sound!
Finally, to make a kazoo, get hold of a large sweet tube and make a circular hole in the middle.
Cut the open end from a small sweet tube…
…pop it into the hole you made in the larger sweet tube and glue around it to create a seal that won't allow any air to escape. |
Allow to dry, and pop a sweet wrapper over the smaller tube, and secure it in place with an elastic band.
Remove one end of the large tube, and make a hole in the other to hum into.
Just try not to drive everyone too mad with the resulting sounds! |
