Best Friends is the story about the unbreakable bond between two girls who know that there’s always someone on their side, even if the rest of the world is against them.
Gemma and Alice were both born on Christmas Eve ten years ago and both are convinced that their friendship is as
unbreakable as the stars in the night sky. They both share that special magic that comes from having a friend so close you
always know what they’re thinking - and the terrible, awful and utterly unfair pain that’s caused when adults split up that
friendship.
Gemma is a feisty, dynamic tomboy with a huge heart and a soft side buried deep behind her cheeky smile. She’s always talking and chatting, partly to keep up with all the ideas that fizz in her head. Gemma always acts on impulse, without considering the consequences – which usually lands her in a lot of trouble. She will never stop talking about the time she drank two large cokes and a milkshake and headed home without stopping for the loo!
In many ways Alice is the total opposite of her best friend. If Gemma is a rough-and-tumble tomboy then Alice is a popular girly girl – though she’s not above climbing the apple tree in Gemma’s garden or taking part in a spitting competition, if her Mum is not looking. Despite their differences, the girls make a great team. When Gemma eats the blue smarties, Alice eats the pink ones. They never quarrel or sulk with each other and Alice would do absolutely anything for Gemma.
