Tag isn’t just a game that you play in the playground. It’s also a brand new toy from Leapfrog! There’s a real buzz in the press about this product, so WHAM decided to test it out to see if it’s worth all the fuss!
The Tag is aimed at 4-8 year olds and looks just like a pen – a rather funky pen at that, but a pen nevertheless. But, once you start playing with it, you’ll realise it’s much more than that.
Moving the Tag over the page of the special books means that the pen will read the words out loud to you. Just like magic! Or, just read the book yourself and if you get stuck on a bit, tap the pen on the page and hey presto, it will help you out. (The pictures sing too, which gave WHAM a lovely surprise!)
As well as reading the story aloud, the pen enables you to play lots of mini games and puzzles – and we particularly liked the fact that we could unlock extra content online as we went along. The memory on the pen isn’t massive, so you probably won’t be able to gather ALL of the content you want to – but we didn’t find that to be a big problem when we were testing it out.
The Tag is a really clever piece of kit, and made us laugh out loud every time we played with it. If you move the pen too fast, you can get a funny garbled speech pattern, but even that made us giggle a bit, and definitely didn’t spoil the fun!
WHAM gives the Leapfrog Tag four out of five for play-ability!
